Educational & Scientific Symposium

In World Congress symposia, experts from various fields will speak to pharmacy students and recent graduates on the current trends in pharmaceutical education and science. Expertise and personal experiences shared by our renowned speakers will provide a chance for pharmacy students and recent graduates to reflect on their roles in the future, to cope with environmental changes and innovations in digital healthcare. At the Symposium of the 66th IPSF World Congress, participants will learn, network and share their thoughts on Pharmacogenomics, a clinical blueprint for individualized patient care, and innovative platforms for patient education.

Workshops

Workshops at the World Congress will be educative, informative and social. Using peer-learning techniques and other interactive measures, these workshops will convey suggestions on how the pharmacists’ role should change in this rapidly changing era. Also, this will be a critical time to discuss how community pharmacies and pharmaceutical industries contribute to the pharmacy system, health/medical treatment, public health and pharmacy education. In the social parts of workshops, Korean traditional and various contents will be presented. Thus, this session will offer valuable time for participants to broaden their insight on diverse fields.

Public Health Campaign

Public Health campaign aims to offer participants a chance to expert on communities positive influence about health promotion. Also, participants will develop information delivery skills by communicating with the public throughout the campaign. Some examples on the theme of Public Health Campaign are adult and chronic diseases, as well as misuse and abuse of medicines. To effectively inform the public, participants will actively prepare, learn and familiarize themselves with the various contents such as prevention and management of diseases, and the right usage of medicines.

Professional Development Events

IPSF is committed to promoting the role of the pharmacist. Professional Development involves the process of active participation in learning activities that assist individuals in developing and maintaining continuing competence, enhancing their professional practice and optimising health outcomes as an integral member of the health professional team. Through professional skills competitions, IPSF strives to enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required by pharmacy professionals and students for their future practice.

IPSF General Assembly

The General Assembly is the supreme decision-making body of the Federation and shall discuss and decide the furtherance of the objectives of the Federation. The General Assembly consists of all the members of the Federation, and official delegates of each association gather together to participate in decision making.

Pharmacogenomics: Clinical blueprint for individualised patient care

Codeine as a well-known example, pharmacogenomics had leapt forward along with the introduction of human genome project and bioinformatics since 1970s. Since then, pharmaceutical technology has developed rapidly aiming to increase the efficacy of  drugs. Moreover, the currently increasing focus on patient-centered service has shed new light on pharmacogenomics. Tailored medication increases patient compliance and reduces the side effects of drugs. Especially, the aging society is looking forward to the application of pharmacogenomics to individualised medication to combat polypharmacy issues. Utilisation of pharmacogenomics is promising for its contribution to drug development and drug review which eventually aid to pursue personalised medication to improve quality of life.

Threats or Opportunities: Leading the way towards patient safety through innovative platforms for patient education

Along with the diverse health-related platforms that patients can reach out for these days, controversies over patient safety and the role of healthcare professionals are on the floor. Would the easier and faster access to health information be threats or opportunities? As a matter of fact, pharmacy professions can take a key role to navigate the appropriate approaches towards patient safety in this regard. Pharmacists can provide quality patient education and secure patient safety utilizing emerging platforms including digital healthcare. However, they also can degrade patient compliance and patient safety, if managed poorly without supervision of experts, including pharmacists. Being aware of which aspect of overflowing health data would harm and how to overcome it could be the first step to analyze the concerns. In the meantime, let’s scrutinize what we have in our hands. Are they really being threats? Or opportunities? – It may depend on how we think and prepare, holding fast to our accountability as medicine experts!

Patient Counselling Event

Patient counseling is one of the essentials and very important aspects of the pharmacy profession. It also comprises a core part of the patient’s accountability. In IPSF, the Patient Counselling Event is a platform through which pharmacy students can practice with one another and develop their patient counseling skills.

Clinical Skills Event

The Clinical Skills Event aims to develop pharmacy students’ clinical problem-solving capabilities, verbal and written communication skills, and eventually to strengthen the role of the pharmacist in patient care. There are a number of formats of the IPSF CSE, which the participants can join on their preferences.

Industry Skills Event

As a brand-new team-based project, introduced to IPSF quite recently in 2017 and got approved as an official pilot project at the 64th General Assembly in Mendoza, Argentina. The Industry Skills Event expects the contestants to achieve the educational goals of the understanding the pharmaceutical industry, learning the steps beginning from the drug research and development up to the marketing phase.
